Canterbury Caledonian win Palmerston North Square Day

Canterbury Caledonian Society Pipe Band finished off a fantastic 2012 by winning the Palmerston North Square Day competition. The band is from New Zealand and led by Pipe Major Richard Hawke. We recently had one of their top Pipers, Liam Kernaghan as a featured artist which highlights the talent within the band.

New Zealand has a strong piping and pipe band scene with a very high standard grade one competition. This win finished off a tremendous season for the band winning all competitions entered in New Zealand in 2012.

Their wins include:

Canterbury Provincial Championship
New Zealand National Championship
Victoria Square Day Champion Band
Palmerston North Square Day Champion Band

We are particularly proud of the band as they changed to our Peter Henderson poly band chanter at the start of the season. The chanter is designed by Alastair Dunn, double gold medallist and Pipe Sergeant of eight time world champions, Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band.

We are delighted to hear the chanter is winning at the highest level and we send our congratulations to Richard and the band.
